Matej Mihevc’s artistic practice is mostly focused on various industrial processes, animation, machine learning and 3D modelling. In his recent work, he has been exploring the tool of worldbuilding to raise questions about the impact of new technologies on cultural production. He mainly draws inspiration from current and past pop culture references, as well as the film and video game industry.
The latest iteration of his ongoing project Deconstructed Club presents the viewer with a live simulation of an empty and abandoned post-apocalyptic scene, filled with rubble, nightclub-related detritus and numerous stickers, logos and posters. These indirectly hint to an intricate world and to various speculative subcultures that inhabit it, while never really giving anything away.
Matej Mihevc is completing his postgraduate studies in Video and New Media at the Academy of Fine Art and Design of the University of Ljubljana. He has presented his work in several solo exhibitions: Tensor Edge Recon (2023, osmo/za), Deconstructed Club (2023, MoTA Lab), Polymer Ooze (2022, DobraVaga, in collaboration with Vid Koprivšek), @flat_gaze (2021, osmo/za), Cambrian Interfaces (2021, Media Nox, in collaboration with Farah Sara Kurnik). In the past, he has participated in several design projects, and for the last eight years, he has hosted the Modem radio show on Radio Študent, where he explores underground internet music.

Zadnja iteracija njegovega trajajočega projekta Deconstructed Club gledalcu v živo predstavlja simulacijo praznega in zapuščenega postapokaliptičnega prizorišča, polnega ruševin, nočnoklubskih razbitin, ter številnih nalepk, logotipov in plakatov.
