Celeste Sanja
Bound
Working with 3D design Celeste Sanja creates animations and various visualizations at the intersection of fashion, architecture, design and digital art. With a keen interest in the interplay between existing structures and living matter, she explores how conventional social constructs can be suspended through fiction, rituals and other world-building practices. Her works often deal with the topic of the body in different contexts, from its role in the socio-political systems, ecosystems, biological processes, to occult topics and witchcraft.

Bound presents an infinite visual narrative, which is centred around the bounded body of flesh. Different occult objects and mythological elements are circling the rotating body, referencing the acts of gathering around bonfires and participating in different ritualistic practices. By combining the 3D-designed objects and poetic text, the artist is exploring how the privatization of the body influenced the disappearance of certain ritualistic practices and started to erode the possibilities of bringing people together in the communal setting. Through the research about the historical demonisation of certain rituals and witchcraft, she is reflecting on the nowadays’s importance of coming together in different communities, while at the same time questioning the use of storytelling as a tool for dealing with contemporary issues and frustrations.

Celeste Sanja is a transdisciplinary artist and 3D generalist who enjoys writing. Originally from Slovenia, she is currently based in Helsinki, pursuing a master's degree in New Media at Aalto University. Her work delves into themes of corporeality and transience, embracing various new and unknown media.

Celeste Sanja ustvarja animacije in različne vizualizacije na presečišču mode, arhitekture, oblikovanja in digitalne umetnosti. Z velikim zanimanjem za vzajemno delovanje med obstoječimi strukturami in živimi snovmi raziskuje, kako prekiniti konvencionalne družbene konstrukcije s pomočjo fikcije, ritualov in drugih praks grajenja svetov. Njena dela pogosto obravnavajo temo telesnosti v različnih kontekstih, od družbeno-političnih sistemov, ekosistemov, bioloških procesov in simbiotičnih odnosov do okultnih tem in čarovništva.
